I was interviewed for an article in the Commercial Appeal written by Stacey Wiedower. Here are the trends I have seen in kitchens: High Contrast- High contrast between dark and light. This could be white cabinets and a dark Espresso island or dark wood floors.
Soft & Neutral- Softer tone-on-tone neutrals. Textures and materials define this all-over soothing palette. It is calming to the soul and lets you add an accent color if desired. Statement light fixtures- This could be a larger scale stand-out piece hanging center stage or unique lantern style pendants. People are loving anything that sets them apart. This is a safe way to do it in an item that could be easily changed later. Transitional- This "it" word of the moment describes the overall look and feel of a space. Clean lines and Crisp paint abound. Open Concept- Opening the kitchen to adjoin rooms is top of most everyone's list. People want to be able to be a part of the action, whether entertaining or in daily life. This also gives the illusion of more space, without increasing the footprint.
